Amateur radio operators serve the community by using their equipment and skills to provide communications to difficult to reach areas. This might mean foreign countries on the other side of the globe or a neighborhood a few blocks away. As highly sophisticated as technology has developed, vital communications links can easily be rendered useless in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
In the case of the National Weather Service amateur radio communications quickly relay vital weather observations to meteorologists so they can alert the public to impending weather hazards. Countless lives and property can be saved with early and accurate information and amateur radio operators are proud to be a part of that mission.
